Is Philadelphia LGBTQ Friendly?

According to recent studies, Philadelphia ranks among the top 10 (6th) LGBTQ Friendly cities in the United States. The city has a long history of acceptance and tolerance.

Philadelphia has played and still plays an imperative role in the founding and persistence of LGBT Civil rights movements. It hosted the country’s 1st LGBT Annual reminder day in 1965. The city is home to gay pride events with numerous cultural events and sites like The William Way LGBT Community Center, Philly AIDS Thrift @ Giovanni’s Room (Americas oldest LGBT focused store), Barbara Gittings Gay & Lesbian Collection at the Free Library of Philadelphia, and much more.


The tourists still can visit the places and sites from where everything imitated and history was made especially Gayborhood. The blocks between 11th and broad streets and Pine and Chestnut streets have been named as Gayborhood in 1995. You will see more than 70 rainbow street signs in the neighborhood to support and upkeep the promise the city has made towards the LGBT community. This area is the epicenter of Gay community and culture today.












The motto of the city is based on equal rights, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It is also considered ecstasy for LGBT tourists. Philadelphia is always ahead of the world. It demonstrates the LGBT civil rights demonstrations in front of Independence Hall on July 4, 1965. Their tourism slogan became very famous that said: “Get Your History Straight and Your Nightlife Gay”. 

The LGBT events that happen throughout the year are very famous that includes, Blue Ball, Pride Parade, OutFest, and many others. Mazzoni Center is the focused health care center for the LGBT community from which more than 30,000 people benefit annually. William Way Community Center contains a huge archive related to LGBT culture, norms, support, events, etc.
